CAMPING AT THE THE CORRAL
In the fall, Buffalo Flat, also known as the corral, offers a warmer stay for people sleeping in vans or trucks. It is managed by BLM, and there are no amenities or tent pads. It can be very muddy when wet. This pullout is off of Grass Valley Road: Drive 5 miles south from the canyon entrance, and turn right onto a dirt road with a large, obvious lot for camping.
CAMPING AT THE MEADOW
If the RMP campground is full, climbers also camp in Forest Service lands. In the summer, the meadow above RMP offers cooler temps and great scenery: Continue north on the main road for about a mile outside of Rifle Mountain Park, and turn left in the direction of Coulter Lake Ranch at the first junction. You may need a high clearance car when the road is wet.
