The Rifle Climbers' Coalition was formed to manage all climbing-related issues in Rifle Mountain Park and its contiguous walls.
We consider this box canyon to be a unique place for its incomparable charm and quality of climbing.
Our mission is to manage the installment of new routes, preserve access, expand opportunities for climbing in the region and continue to promote stewardship of this amazing natural resource.
We are a group of friends, climbing partners and canyon vistors from many places, united by common passions for sport rock climbing (yes, we do clip the bolts!) and for
those imposing limestone cliffs. At RCC we are not only climbers but also, we are citizens who care more than any other social group about this unique geological feature which Rifle Canyon is.
We are aware that grabing holds and squeezing kneebars in the canyon is not the only way of showing our affections for this place.
We want to give back by every possible effort of keeping our climbing activity discrete and our steps invisible.
We want to show to all stake holders that climbing is not a destructive way of accessing natural resources. By creating RCC we formed a representation and a united voice in talks with Rifle Canyon legal owners or land managers.
We do want this voice to be heard and we would like to be partners in management and preservation. The least each of us climbers can do is to adopt an attitude of respect and humility toward the canyon resources, local community and to one another.
As an organization we can do and achieve more.
The initiatives that we adopted so far encompass:
- yearly cleanup events (we pick up trash from all cliffs and pick-nique areas),
- trails improvements and reconstruction,
- bridges construction,
- bolt replacement (see the list of replaced bolts in 2010 - pop-up),
- installations of perma-draws, permanent and durable draws on most popular warm-ups and canyon's masterpieces replacing old and dangerous junk,
- wooden benches construction
